Iran is now trying to further strengthen its control over the Strait of Hormuz. For this, Iran has released a new maritime map, which has increased the concern of UAE and Oman. It is believed that Iran now wants to strengthen its hold in the Gulf region by taking advantage of the atmosphere of war and tension. It also wants to capture the maritime areas of UAE and Oman.
Iranian organization Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) released a new map. This map shows the area of the Strait of Hormuz where Iran is claiming surveillance and control. According to the new map, this area extends from Kuh Mubarak in Iran to Fujairah in UAE and from Qeshm Island in Iran to Umm Al Kewain in UAE.
already captured three islands
Experts say that this claim does not just mean maritime surveillance. From this it seems that Iran wants to increase its influence on the maritime areas of UAE and Oman as well. Iran already occupies three large islands near Hormuz, Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb. There is a dispute going on between Iran and UAE regarding these islands for almost 50 years. UAE considers these islands as its part, but Iran has maintained its control over them since 1971.
These three islands are considered very strategic, because through them the activities of the Strait of Hormuz can be monitored. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil trade routes in the world and a large part of the world’s oil is supplied from here.
New rules for ships in Hormuz
Iran has said that now ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz PGSA Permission will have to be taken from. Now any ship will have to apply on the official mail of PGSA before passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Ship owners will have to provide complete details of the ship, insurance documents, crew list, cargo information and complete route of travel. After this, the ship will be allowed to proceed further only after getting Iran’s approval and depositing the fees.
PGSA claims that it is the legal body that controls the movement and transit of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. PGSA also launched its official account on X on 18 May. In this, people were asked to follow this account for information about updates and activities related to the Strait of Hormuz.
