If you have ever noticed that while taking out the washed clothes from the washing machine, there are pieces of lint stuck on them, then the reason behind this could be the lint filter installed in your washing machine. After washing the clothes, take out the clothes and stop the machine but many people ignore this filter. This filter works to trap hair and threads so that they do not clog the drainage system. Gradually this filter starts getting clogged, just as the filter of your AC gradually starts getting dirty, in the same way dirt starts accumulating in it too.
Why is it important to clean this filter?
Lint filter is not just about keeping your clothes lint-free, it plays a bigger role than that. Once it gets clogged, water is unable to drain properly from the machine, causing excessive load on the pump and ultimately leading to drainage problems.
The most disturbing thing is this: Once the filter is full, the trapped lint has nowhere to go, so instead of being flushed out with the dirty water, it gets carried around during the wash and sticks directly to your wet clothes.
What does a clogged filter do?
According to Moneycontrol, if you notice lint on your clothes after every wash, your Machine Telling you that the filter needs attention. This isn’t just a cosmetic problem, clogged filters and trapped moisture create the perfect conditions for bacteria and odor-causing fungus to grow on your clothes even after a full wash cycle.
This is especially difficult for expensive fabrics, wool blends, delicate cottons, or anything with detailing, as lint trapped in the fibers can be really difficult to remove without a second wash.
How to clean?
In most top-load machines, this filter is usually located inside the drum, near the agitator or along the rim. Once you find it, gently twist it or pull it out depending on your model and rinse it thoroughly under running water to clear out trapped lint and debris. Once it’s clean, dry it and put it back securely in place before the next wash. Similarly, you will get this filter in front load machines also.
In how many days should it be cleaned?
For regular use, once every two weeks is a good idea, but in monsoon, when clothes take more time to air dry, clothes get clogged faster, so it is better to check the filter every week.
