
Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tarkash reached Port Victoria, Seychelles on 12 June 2026. The visit is part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing operational deployment campaign in the South-West Indian Ocean region. The objective of this visit is to deepen the strong maritime partnership between India and Seychelles and to promote defense and maritime security cooperation.
INS Tarkash escorted Seychelles Coast Guard ship PS Zoroaster from India to Seychelles. The ship has reached Seychelles after completing the refit at Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). This entire operation demonstrated better coordination between the navies of the two countries and their ability to deal with common maritime challenges.
Bilateral relations will be strengthened
During the port call, Captain Rohit Mishra, Commanding Officer of INS Tarkash will meet senior officials of the Government of Seychelles and Seychelles Defense Forces. Defense cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries are expected to get a further boost. Apart from this, cultural and social programs will also be organized, which will deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of both the countries.
Spare parts and necessary items will also be handed over
Some important spare parts and essential items will also be handed over to the Government of Seychelles from the Government of India. Defense officials said the visit underlines India’s commitment to regional maritime security and India’s role as a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean region. The port visit aims to deepen friendship, enhance maritime cooperation and strengthen the long-standing partnership between India and Seychelles.
Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth will be the next Army Chief
On the other hand, the Central Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth as the next Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. He will take charge on 30 June 2026. On this day, current Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will retire. Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff. He has nearly four decades of military experience. He is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (NDA), Khadagwasla and was commissioned into the Armored Corps in December 1986. In his long military career, Lieutenant General Seth has held many important operational, strategic and leadership positions. He has made important contributions to the combat capability, modernization and strategic preparedness of the Indian Army.
