This is the first time after a long wait of 36 years in international cricket, when an England opening pair has registered a century partnership against India at the historic ground of Lord’s. If we talk about the overall record at Lord’s, this is the first time since 2010 when England’s first two batsmen have added more than 100 runs for the first wicket. Earlier in September 2010, the opening pair of Andrew Strauss and Steven Davis had made an opening partnership of 113 runs against Pakistan. Since then, no English opening pair could touch the century mark for the first wicket on this ground, which today the pair of Duckett and Bethel has made true.
England’s long drought in ODI also ends
Not only this, this opening century partnership for England in One Day International cricket has come after a long time. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Jonny Bairstow and David Malan had made a partnership of 115 runs for the first wicket against Bangladesh at Dharamshala. Since that match, for the first time in ODI cricket, the England team has been successful in making an opening partnership of more than 100 runs on any ground.
