
Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Tahir Hussain and others in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh of Karkardooma Court has given this order.
The court convicted Tahir Hussain for crimes under sections 188, 153A, 147, 148, 149, 365 and 302 of the IPC. However, the court acquitted him of crimes under sections 120B and 129 of the IPC. The court also convicted 5 more people for the murder of Ankit Sharma. Apart from Tahir Hussain, the other accused include Nazim, Qasim, Shoaib Alam (brother of Tahir Hussain), Javed, Gulfam, Sameer Khan, Haseen alias Mullaji, Anas, Firoz and Muntajmwish alias Musa.
Except Tahir Hussain, Nazim and Qasim, all the other accused were granted bail in this case. However, Tahir Hussain’s bail application was rejected by the Delhi High Court in September last year. Let us tell you that Ankit Sharma was murdered during the riots in North-East Delhi in February 2020. This case is related to FIR 65/2020 registered in Dayalpur Police Station.
Father had filed a complaint
This FIR was registered on the basis of the complaint of the father of deceased Ankit Sharma. Ankit Sharma’s son went missing during the riots in Delhi in February 2020, a missing report was filed. Ankit’s body was later found in a drain. He was declared dead in GTB Hospital.
Suspicion of murder was raised against Tahir and his associates
According to the complaint, Ankit Sharma used to work in the Intelligence Bureau. At around 5 o’clock in the evening of the incident, he had left the house to buy household items. But, he did not return home even after several hours. Later, his body was found lying in a drain near Chand Bagh culvert. He had severe injuries on his head, face, chest, back and waist. Delhi Police registered an FIR on the complaint of Ankit Sharma’s father, in the complaint it was said that he strongly suspected that his son was killed by the main accused Tahir Hussain and his associates.
Ankit Sharma’s PM report reveals 51 injuries
The postmortem report of deceased Ankit Sharma revealed that 51 injuries were caused by sharp edged weapons. In March 2023, the trial court framed charges against Tahir Hussain, Haseen, Nazim, Qasim, Sameer Khan, Anas, Firoz, Javed, Gulfam, Shoaib Alam and Muntajim. Charges were framed under sections 147, 148, 153A, 302, 365, 120B, 149, 188 and 153A of IPC, 1860. Hussain was also charged under sections 505, 109 and 114 of the IPC. Accused Nazim was also charged under Section 25 of the Arms Act.
