Gen-Z battle rages on! Demand to contest elections in 21 years… Revanth Reddy from Congress and Jayant Chaudhary from NDA raised their voice.

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the Gen-Z movement in Delhi, political parties have started courting them. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made a big announcement regarding the age limit for youth to contest elections. He said that the state government will call a special session of the Legislative Assembly to pass a proposal to reduce the minimum age for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from 25 years to 21 years. After this it will be sent to the central government. Similarly, Union Minister of State and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary has also raised this issue.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy advocated amendment of the Constitution to give more political representation to ‘Gen Z’. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the age limit for contesting elections in Assembly and Lok Sabha is 25 years, while for Rajya Sabha and Council it is 30 years. But in countries like Germany and Great Britain, any person can be elected to the legislature after completing the age of 18 years.

Revanth said- Youth can become Prime Minister in Singapore

He said that there he can also become Prime Minister and President at that age. In Singapore, if you are above 21 years of age, you can become the Prime Minister of the country. I assure you that special sessions of the Assembly and Council will be called in the first week of August. After debate in both the Houses, we will pass a resolution that the age limit for contesting the election of MLA or MP should be 21 years. And we will send that proposal to the Prime Minister.

Youth should get a chance to rule

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the youth should get a chance to rule the country. Because youth are the future of this country and they should rule the country in the future. He said that we will bring this proposal in the Telangana Assembly and ensure that this bill is passed in the Lok Sabha under the supervision of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Kharge.

Jayant Chaudhary has repeated this demand many times

After Congress leader Revanth Reddy, Union Minister of State Jayant Choudhary has also raised this issue. He claims that he has been continuously raising this demand. Since 2019, Jayant Chaudhary has been demanding reducing the minimum age for contesting elections from 25 years to 21 years. He also wrote a letter in this regard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 30, 2025. This letter also mentions Bijnor MP Chandan Chauhan, who had earlier raised the same issue in Parliament. This letter of RLD chief Jayant is now going viral on social media.
