July 16, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Two youths were arrested from Sitamarhi in Bihar on the basis of input received from NIA. The investigating agency alleges that both were in contact with a Pakistan-based network and a Pakistani gangster and were conspiring to carry out anti-national activities and disturb communal harmony. Arrested accused Mohd. Akhlaq and Mohd. Armaan is a resident of Takor village of Sitamarhi.

At present, both of them have been sent to jail in judicial custody after presenting them in the court. Police have also seized three Android mobile phones from them. According to the investigation, both the accused were in contact with Rana Hasnain alias Rana Hussain, associated with the terrorist network of Pakistan, through Instagram and WhatsApp. He used to talk to them through ‘one-time’ audio calls. In this, after the call is disconnected, its record is automatically deleted.

Apart from Sitamarhi, other cases have come to light across the country, in which the suspects have been in contact with a Pakistan-based terrorist network and a Pakistani gangster through social media and encrypted messaging apps. The same pattern is being seen in the cases of the accused arrested for the attack on the RSS office in Ranchi and many suspects caught in UP and Delhi. In this, the name of Pakistan-backed terrorist organization named Tehreek-e-Taliban has also come to light, which is being run by a Pakistani gangster named Shahzad Bhatti.

How are Pakistani terrorist organizations recruiting terrorists in India through social media?

Why is the arrest of 2 suspects from Sitamarhi a matter of concern?

The recent arrest of two suspects from Sitamarhi is worrying the investigating agencies. Actually, Sitamarhi is a district bordering Nepal. This border remains completely open. In such a situation, it is easy to enter India from here. Terrorists may try to use this border for fake identity, logistics and transit. The investigating agencies have also revealed many cases regarding this. Apart from this, cases of terrorist modules using this route have also come to light in the past.

Between 2011 and 2013, many operatives of the banned terrorist organization Indian Mujahideen were arrested from Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur and surrounding districts of Seemanchal. At that time it was called Darbhanga or Bihar module. Let us tell you that Indian Mujahideen was an Islamic terrorist organization active in India. It is considered to be a new form of the banned terrorist organization ‘SIMI’. The Government of India had banned it on June 4, 2010 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

In which attacks was the name of Darbhanga module of Indian Mujahideen mentioned?

This organization carried out several serial bomb blasts in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Varanasi. Hundreds of innocent people were killed in these attacks. Yasin Bhatkal, Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal and Abdul Subhan Qureshi were its main founders and directors. Yasin Bhatkal was responsible for Darbhanga module. The role of Darbhanga module was also revealed in the bomb blast in Darbhanga in 2013 and then in the blast during Narendra Modi’s rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
