Central government to improve examination system amid uproar and demonstration over NEET paper leak She is continuously taking steps and trying to fulfill the demands of the agitators. 1. No legal action on peaceful demonstration
Sonam Wangchuk ended her 26-day hunger strike at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. He was on a hunger strike since June 28 to show solidarity with the “Cockroach” protest of the youth at Jantar Mantar against the paper leak. Wangchuk broke the strike after the intervention of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Dr Jitendra Singh. After this, the Central Government gave written assurance on the main demands of the students. After that, Wangchuk broke his fast at midnight.
The government formally agreed to these terms with Sonam Wangchuk. No legal action will be taken. No police action or case will be registered against peaceful student protesters. Along with this, an assurance was given by the government that irregularities in the examination and major reforms in NTA testing will be officially discussed in the ongoing monsoon session.
2. Assurance of compensation to victims
The Center has given positive approval to compensate the families of the victims and waive the legal case against the student activists involved in the NEET paper leak protests.
This assurance has been given by the Central Government in talks with the representatives of CJP. The government agreed to consider appropriate financial compensation for the families of students who tragically committed suicide due to examinations.
3. PM’s announcement to create fast-track court
Amidst the NEET paper leak and protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised zero tolerance for irregularities in the exam. In a video message, the Prime Minister directed to immediately set up a dedicated fast-track court, so that the trial can be conducted quickly and the syndicate leader can be punished quickly.
4. A law will be made for 10 years imprisonment
The government has announced to take strict steps against paper leaks. This bill was approved in the cabinet meeting. The Cabinet initiated large-scale legal reforms to further tighten the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
Upcoming legislative changes include tougher sentencing measures to prevent this altogether. Under this, people or institutions found guilty of conspiring to leak exam papers may have to face imprisonment of up to 10 years and a heavy fine of up to Rs 10 crore.
5. 47 officers of NTA dismissed
The Central Government has announced major changes in the system of National Testing Agency (NTA). 47 officers were dismissed with immediate effect. Legal as well as criminal action will be taken against some of these officers.
A high-level independent committee of experts is being formed to completely overhaul the digital infrastructure of NTA, raise questions on data security protocols and operational transparency.
6. Secretary of Higher Education Department removed
Along with this, the Education Department has appointed the Secretary of the Higher Education Department Vineet Joshi was removed from his post and in his place Naresh Pal Gangwar has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Higher Education Department.
Earlier, after the allegations of NEET paper leak, the government took action and giving importance to transparency and intelligence, postponed the examination and ordered to conduct the examination again. The investigation was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which formed a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT).
CBI started investigation swiftly and exposed the network that leaked the question paper. 13 accused were arrested and sent to jail.
