Now a new twist has come in the Ram temple case of Ayodhya. Nirmohi Akhara, which is a party to this case, has filed a new petition in the Supreme Court and has demanded the reconstitution of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The Akhara has requested the court to declare the Ram Mandir Trust as a public trust and conduct a forensic audit of its financial transactions. It has been said in this petition that there is a lack of transparency in the formation and functioning of the present trust.
Nirmohi Akhara alleges that an independent investigation is necessary into the construction of the temple and the financial matters related to it. Therefore, a forensic audit of the trust’s income, expenditure and use of funds should be conducted. Along with this, the Akhara has demanded the restructuring of the Trust, saying that proper representation should be given to all the concerned parties and traditional religious institutions, so that the management of the temple can be done in a more transparent and accountable manner. Now further action will be decided in this matter after hearing in the court.
The petition has been filed by Shri Panch Ramanandi Nirmohi Akhara through Mahant Raja Ramchandracharya past Guru Mahant Raghunath Dasji Maharaj, seeking directions to ensure sincere implementation of the 2019 decision.
Ram Mandir Trust working as ‘Private Trust’
The Akhara said that the Supreme Court had specifically directed that in view of its historical presence at the disputed site, the Nirmohi Akhara should be given a proper role in the management of the temple and appropriate representation in the trust. According to the petition, despite many years having passed, these instructions have not been implemented. The petition alleges that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is effectively functioning as a ‘private trust’ without adequate statutory oversight or accountability.
‘Central government should reconstitute the trustee board’
It has been claimed that the current structure of the Trust is not in accordance with the spirit of the Supreme Court’s decision. The Akhara has requested the court to direct the Central Government to make appropriate amendments in the Trust Deed and reconstitute the Trustee Board. A supervisory committee composed of members of the Ramanandi Bairagi sect should be included in the new board. It also demands that the trustees should be selected from among people of ‘high integrity’ and who have historical, legal or religious connection with Shri Ram Janmabhoomi or Ramanandi traditions.
