Centre’s reply on moong purchase controversy… MP got the highest approval, Union Minister Shivraj wrote a letter to CM Mohan Yadav

July 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Amidst the farmers’ protest in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has written a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav regarding the purchase of moong. In this letter, a reply has been given by the Center to the State Government on the Moong Purchase Letter. The Union Agriculture Minister wrote a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and clarified that approval has already been given to purchase 4.54 lakh metric tons of moong for Madhya Pradesh.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that Madhya Pradesh has got the highest permission to purchase 4,54,580 metric tonnes of moong in the country, which is about 87% of the total 5,23,243 metric tonnes approved across the country. In the letter, objection was raised to the claim of State Agriculture Minister Adal Singh Kanshana that the Center has set a target for procurement. The Center said that approval is given under the scheme, not the target of procurement.

Permission to purchase up to 25% of estimated production

The Center clarified that under the PM-AASHA scheme, procurement is allowed up to 25% of the state’s estimated production in PSS. If procurement is required more than 25% then the decision on additional quantity is taken by the Committee of Secretaries (CoS). The Center said that Uttar Pradesh has been given approval for 48,298 metric tons, Haryana for 2,115 metric tons, Gujarat for 18,250 metric tons, while Madhya Pradesh has been given the maximum approval of 4,54,580 metric tons.

Only 60 thousand metric tons of moong were purchased

The Union Minister said that in the last several years, Madhya Pradesh was given permission to purchase moong in ever increasing quantities and the additional purchase was done by the state government at its own level. According to the letter, till July 29, 2026, only about 60 thousand metric tons of moong has been purchased in Madhya Pradesh.

Request to speed up moong procurement

In the interest of farmers, the Central Government has requested the State Government to speed up the process of purchasing moong. The Center says that Madhya Pradesh has been given maximum admissible support under the scheme, now the state government should ensure prompt procurement to provide timely benefits to the farmers.
