Bike taxi and auto drivers clash! Up to 50% subsidy will be available on electric vehicles

July 18, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Goa government is preparing to bring a new policy to promote electric vehicles (EV) in the state. Under this policy, it is proposed to provide up to 50% subsidy to licensed bike taxi (pilot) and auto-rickshaw drivers on the purchase of electric vehicles. The government believes that this will reduce dependence on traditional petrol and diesel vehicles, reduce pollution and also reduce the operating costs of drivers.

70 new EV charging stations will also be installed

In the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, many important decisions were discussed to strengthen electric mobility in the state. The government has also planned to set up 70 new EV charging stations in Goa. With the strengthening of the charging network, confidence among people about electric vehicles will increase and long distance travel will also become easier.

Special focus will be on bike taxi and auto drivers

The government believes that bike taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers cover long distances every day and their expenditure on fuel is very high. In such a situation, adopting electric vehicles will reduce their daily costs significantly. This is the reason why in the new policy, a plan has been made to provide subsidy benefits to these sections first. This will not only increase their income but will also promote green transportation in the state.

Already implemented EV policy will get new extension

Even before in Goa, incentives have been given on the purchase of electric vehicles. Now the government wants to make the subsidy system more attractive through a new policy and motivate more people to adopt EVs. Along with this, charging infrastructure will also be expanded, so that electric vehicle users do not face any kind of problem.

Both environment and economy will benefit

Experts say that increasing use of electric vehicles will reduce carbon emissions, reduce dependence on imported fuel and make the transportation sector more sustainable. If this plan is successful, then Goa can be included in those states of the country where the use of electric vehicles in public transport will increase rapidly. The government hopes that the new EV policy will not only promote clean energy but will also benefit the tourism-based economy of the state.
