
The Central Government on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain of 1989 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. He will remain on this post for two years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment. The official order states that Anurag Jain’s appointment will be on the same terms and conditions that were applicable to his previous CEO. IAS Anurag Jain is known as an efficient administrator with almost four decades of experience.
He has worked on many important positions in both the Central Government and Madhya Pradesh Government. He has worked as Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation. Apart from this, he has also served on various regional and departmental posts in Madhya Pradesh including District Collector and Secretary to the Chief Minister.
IAS Anurag Jain has been associated with policy and administrative initiatives.
During his career, he has been associated with many different policy and administrative initiatives, including in the areas of infrastructure development, industrial development and governance reforms. Now, as CEO of Niti Aayog, the Centre’s premier public policy think tank, Anurag Jain will oversee efforts to promote cooperative and competitive federalism, support evidence-based policy making, and facilitate the implementation of key national development priorities.
How educated is Anurag Jain?
Anurag Jain, born on 11 August 1965 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, was excellent in studies since childhood. He did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in the year 1986 and stood second in his batch. After doing B.Tech, he chose to join civil services and passed the UPSC exam in the year 1988 and became an IAS officer. Later, he also took a master’s degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University of America.
Chief Secretary of MP becomes CEO of NITI Aayog
IAS Anurag Jain was earlier appointed as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, but now after going to the Centre, senior IAS officer Ashok Baranwal has been made the new Chief Secretary of MP. Ashok Baranwal, a 1991 batch IAS officer, also has a master’s degree in Public Policy and Management along with B.Tech (Mining Engineering).
