
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has said that artificial intelligence is now responsible for writing 20 percent to 30 percent of the code inside the company, which shows the growing role of AI in software development. During a live conversation with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Meta’s first LamaCon AI developer event in Menlo Park, California, Nadella said that AI-generated code is becoming a larger part of Microsoft’s engineering workflow and its share is constantly growing.
According to Moneycontrol report, AI is becoming a major part of software development. During the discussion, Nadella said, I would say that today probably 20 percent, 30 percent of the code that is in our repositories and in some of our projects is probably written by software. He further said that Microsoft The volume of AI-powered code is continuously increasing as the company continues to integrate AI into its development process.
When Nadella asked Mark Zuckerberg how much of Meta’s code was made up of AI, the Meta CEO said he did not have any concrete figures. However, Zuckerberg predicted that AI would soon take over a larger share of software development in the meta. Mark Zuckerberg said, our estimate is that next year, maybe half of the development will be done by AI, rather than people, and then it will just keep growing. Microsoft and Meta together employ thousands of software engineers, clearly showing the shift towards AI assisted coding in the technology industry.
Use of AI is increasing in tech companies
Google CEO Sundar Pichai had earlier said that more than 25 percent of the company’s new code is made from AI. Other technology companies have also started changing their hiring strategies according to AI capabilities.
