Inquilab Manch spokesperson and student leader Sharif Usman Hadi, who created a stir in Bangladesh politics, was given a final farewell on Saturday. He was laid to rest near the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus. A huge crowd gathered at the funeral, while questions and pressure on the government regarding Hadi’s murder also intensified. Inquilab Manch has given an ultimatum of 24 hours to the interim government through an open forum.
Hadi’s Namaz-e-Janaza was offered in the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. During this, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Professor Mohammad Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, leaders of different political parties and a large number of supporters were present. After the funeral, Hadi’s body was brought to Dhaka University in a freezing van, where he was buried near the Central Mosque. Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, in his address during the funeral, said that Hadi will always be alive in our hearts.
Inquilab Manch’s ultimatum, government should respond within 24 hours
Inquilab Manch’s member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber called upon the supporters to go to Shahbag and protest after the funeral. He said in clear words that we have not come here just to mourn, we have come to demand justice for our brother. Jaber alleged that the attackers were not arrested even after a week of the murder. Giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the Yunus government, he said that the government should make public the identity of the killers, what action has been taken so far, what is the future plan?
Brother’s question: Murder in broad daylight, how is the murderer still absconding?
Before the funeral, Hadi’s brother Abu Bakar Siddiq directly raised questions on the government and the police from the stage. He said that my brother was shot dead in broad daylight in the capital. Seven-eight days have passed, still the murderers have not been caught. Why is this so?
He demanded that the trial of Hadi’s murderers should be started immediately.
Who was Sharif Osman Hadi?
Sharif Usman Hadi, 32, was the spokesperson of the anti-Sheikh Hasina platform Inquilab Manch. This platform came into limelight during the July 2024 rebellion, after which Sheikh Hasina had to leave power. Hadi was campaigning as an independent candidate from Dhaka in next year’s general elections.
Inquilab Manch is considered a fundamentalist organization in Bangladesh. Hadi was also known for his anti-India rhetoric and controversial activities. A few days ago, he had released the so-called Greater Bangladesh map, in which some parts of India were described as Bangladesh.
