
CBI on Saturday arrested a senior Defense Ministry official, Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma in a bribery case. Along with the Lieutenant Colonel, a person named Vinod Kumar has also been arrested. The inclusion of Lieutenant Colonel’s name in such a big bribery case has shocked everyone. Colonel Sharma is the Deputy Planning Officer of International Cooperation and Exports in the Ministry of Defence.
These arrests took place after the case registered by CBI on December 19. CBI had received reliable information about illegal activities involving government officials and private companies working in the defense sector. After which this action has been taken. The investigating agency has registered a case against wife Colonel Kajal Bali and others, including a Dubai-based company, on charges of criminal conspiracy and bribery.
According to the agency, Sharma allegedly sought and accepted bribe to give unfair advantage to some companies engaged in defense manufacturing and exports. Which is being considered as a direct threat to the security of the country.
Who is Deepak Kumar Sharma?
Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma is an Indian Army officer in the Ministry of Defence. He holds the post of Deputy Planning Officer (International Cooperation and Exports) in the Department of Defense Production. While holding this post, he has been accused of bribery. Sharma lives in New Delhi, but his family is from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. Sharma’s age is said to be 40 to 45 years.
His wife Colonel Kajal Bali is the commanding officer of the 16th Infantry Division Ordnance Unit (DOU) in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan and her name has also come up in this case. However, he has not been arrested yet.

CBI officials said that Sharma was caught taking a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a Bengaluru company. The company’s Indian operations were reportedly handled by Rajeev Yadav and Ravjeet Singh, who were allegedly in regular touch with Sharma to gain profits through illegal means.
Vinod Kumar is accused of delivering the bribe amount to Sharma on December 18, 2025, at the behest of the company. During searches at several places in Delhi, including Sharma’s house, the CBI recovered Rs 2.23 crore in cash along with a bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh. Apart from this, another Rs 10 lakh was seized from the house of Sharma’s wife, Colonel Kajal Bali, in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
