Uzma Khanum, sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, met him in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday after several days of speculation. After which Imran’s second sister Alima Khan has announced the next action plan of the family. He said that after knowing about Imran Khan’s troubles, the family will now stage a protest outside Adiala every Tuesday and will not move until six family members and six lawyers are allowed to meet them.
He said that if they think that silence will break us, they are wrong. The more people they block access to, the stronger the resistance will be. Only transparency and legal access can end this injustice.
Imran Khan is facing mental torture in jail
After meeting Imran Khan, Uzma Khanum claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief is facing severe mental torture. His meeting with Imran Khan on 2 December came amid growing concern from PTI members and supporters, who were demanding information from authorities about his health, treatment in custody and access to relatives.
After the conversation, Uzma said that Imran Khan was alive, but expressed concern about his physical condition and the conditions in which he was kept. He alleged that the former Prime Minister appeared weak, emotionally disturbed and isolated.
Taking the name of Pakistan Army Chief, Uzma said, Imran Khan’s health is absolutely fine. He is angry. He said that he is being mentally tortured and Asim Munir is responsible for this.
This meeting reportedly lasted for about 20 minutes. PTI leaders have since reiterated their demands for independent medical evaluation and permission for regular legal and family visits, while there has been no official response from the government to Uzma’s claims. Unconfirmed reports in Afghan media claimed that he died in custody, following which rumors about Imran Khan’s condition intensified.
His son, Qasim Khan, sought proof that the former prime minister was alive, noting on Twitter that it had been 845 days since Imran was jailed and that he had reportedly been kept in death row for six weeks without access to his family. Imran Khan is in jail since August 2023 in several cases. For more than a month, authorities have imposed strict restrictions on meetings, which PTI claims is being implemented on the instructions of a military officer, a charge the authorities deny.
PTI said allowing Uzma Khanum to meet her brother was only a starting point and said regular, uninterrupted meetings should now be allowed in line with court directions as political tensions continue around the jailed opposition leader.
