According to a report by Wall Street Journal, the Sudanese government has offered Russia one base in Africa and one near the Red Sea. Russia was engaged in this exercise for a long time.
Port deal in exchange for arms
According to the report, the Sudanese government has decided to give some ports and mining sites near the Red Sea to Russia. All these bases will be given to Russia for 25 years. In return, the Sudanese government will receive weapons and intelligence from Russia. Sudan is embroiled in a civil war, where Sudan Rapid Force fighters are killing civilians.
According to the American newspaper, if Russia accepts it, then Putin’s army can build its own naval base near the port. There is a provision to keep 4 warships and 300 soldiers at this base.
Why is this offer important for Russia?
Russia’s first base in Africa will be here. That means Russia has got entry into Africa through Sudan. America had used all its strength to stop Russia in Africa. Recently, Trump had talked about intervening in the Sudan civil war, but now America may get a shock due to the new decision of the Sudan government.
Russia has got a port near the Red Sea. This port will be right in front of Saudi Arabia. America has bases in many places in Saudi Arabia. The 2250 kilometer long Red Sea is considered very important from the commercial point of view. 12 percent of the world’s oil trade passes through the Red Sea.
Till now, Russia and Iran had the Houthi rebels of Yemen to control the Red Sea, but now with this decision of Sudan, Russia will be able to establish its own naval base.
