December 1, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Vastu Tips For Roti: Food is not only a necessity for the stomach, but food is considered to be the form of Goddess Annapurna. Food is considered to be a form of Goddess Lakshmi in the form of prosperity. Some special rules for cooking food at home have been mentioned in Vastu Shastra. While preparing food, the environment of the house should be pure and sacred, only then the food gives auspicious results.

However, in Vaastu Shastra, making roti at home is prohibited on certain dates. According to Vastu Shastra, let us know on which dates roti should not be cooked at home.

Sheetala Ashtami

Sheetala Ashtami is considered very sacred and important. It is also called Basoda. On this day, cold i.e. stale food is offered to Mata Shitala. According to beliefs, the stove should not be lit in the house on this day. Therefore, cooking food or bread at home is prohibited on this day. On this day, only stale food offered to the Mother Goddess is eaten with the family.

Diwali

Diwali is considered the most auspicious festival of Hindu religion. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi comes to every house on this day, hence instead of bread, special dishes are prepared on this day. It is believed that making roti on Diwali can displease Goddess Lakshmi, hence people seek blessings and prosperity from Goddess Lakshmi by cooking kheer, podi, malpua and other special dishes on Diwali.

Shraddha

Even during the days of Shraddha, roti should not be prepared at home. These dates are to remember and honor the ancestors, hence instead of ordinary food, special dishes are prepared for the ancestors and offered to them with reverence. It is believed that the food prepared on this day reaches the ancestors directly, thereby receiving their blessings.

Sharad Purnima

It is also celebrated on the day of Sharad Purnima by making roti at home. The day of Sharad Purnima is considered to be the appearance of Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that on the night of Sharad Purnima, the moon showers nectar and adds divinity to the food. Making roti on this day reduces auspiciousness. There may be financial crisis in life, hence on this day Kheer and Puri are offered to the Mother Goddess.

upon death

According to Vastu Shastra, bread should not be cooked after someone’s death in the house. It is believed that by doing this the food becomes impure. At the time of death, the atmosphere of the house is full of mourning, hence both cooking and consuming food during this time is not considered appropriate.
