The fourth T20 match between India and Africa to be held in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Canceled due to low visibility due to dense fog at the stadium. After this, the Uttar Pradesh government said on Wednesday that the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Lucknow is 174, which shows moderate level of air quality. the government has
People have been asked not to believe the misleading data disseminated by private air quality monitoring applications on social media and other platforms.
The government says that the AQI (Air Quality Index) of Lucknow is 174 which certifies the moderate quality of air. However, misleading data related to AQI is being publicized and disseminated on social media and other platforms, which are taken from private apps that provide air quality information.
Foreign platforms use US-EPA standards
Most foreign platforms use US-EPA standards, while India follows the National Air Quality Index (NAQI). The criteria of both are different. Also government stations (like Lalbagh, Talkatora, Aliganj) use certified and calibrated equipment. Private organizations often use satellite data or uncalibrated sensors, which are more prone to error.
CPCB data based on 24 hour average
The AQI data released by CPCB is based on the average scientific assessment of the last 24 hours, which gives the actual and overall air quality status of the city. In contrast, many private apps show transient and local dust and particles, which may be caused by a single intersection, traffic jam or limited activity and do not reflect city-wide conditions.
Confusion arises due to technical differences
Data displayed on private apps are often misleading due to differences in air quality measurement techniques and standards. CPCB’s model has been developed to suit Indian conditions, whereas most private apps are based on foreign conditions, which are not able to accurately assess India’s geographical, seasonal and environmental conditions.
Private apps cannot differentiate between dust and smoke
According to experts, many private apps are not able to differentiate between dust particles and smoke. The amount of dust in Indian cities is naturally high, but foreign models treat it as direct pollution. For this reason AQI is shown higher than reality and an atmosphere of unnecessary fear is created.
Different figures for the same city
It has also come to light that private apps show different AQI for different areas of the same city, which does not indicate the overall urban situation. Such figures are neither authentic nor verified by any official agency, which creates confusion and concern among the general public.
The concern being spread due to misleading data is baseless
The state government says that the fear being spread on the basis of private apps is factless and baseless. The air quality of Lucknow is in moderate category, the situation is under control and there is no need to panic. Citizens are requested to rely only on information received from CPCB and government sources.
Akhilesh Yadav’s attack on Yogi government
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his displeasure over the cancellation of the match. While sharing a post on social media, he said that Delhi’s pollution has now reached Lucknow. That is why the international cricket match to be held in Lucknow is not taking place. Actually, the reason for this is not fog but smog.
