
A major arrest has been made in the case of illegal arms and ammunition smuggling. NIA has caught the biggest arms smuggler of North India, who is the main accused in the illegal arms and ammunition smuggling case starting from Bihar and spreading to many states of North India. The accused has been identified as Kamalkant Verma alias Uncle Ji. He is a resident of Patna, the capital of Bihar.
This is the 11th arrest so far in case RC-01/2025/NIA/PAT. NIA investigation has revealed that Kamalkant Verma was playing a big role in this entire network. He used to procure ammunition illegally from different gun houses in Haryana and other places. After this, this ammunition was transported to Bihar and other parts of the country via Uttar Pradesh.
NIA raided 23 locations on December 4
Kamalkant’s arrest comes just days after the NIA raided 23 locations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana on December 4. During these raids, four other accused named Ravi Ranjan, Shashi Prakash, Vijay Kalra and Kush Kalra were arrested. Besides, a large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered.
NIA says that this arrest is an important step towards breaking the supply chain of illegal arms and ammunition in North India. The investigation of the case is still going on. On the other hand, NIA had arrested the sixth absconding accused in the Ramalingam murder case yesterday. Along with this, another person who gave shelter was also caught in the murder case.
Ramalingam was murdered in February 2019.
Mohammed Ali Jinnah of Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu was declared PO. There was also a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his arrest. On 5 February 2019, Ramalingam was murdered in Thanjavur, allegedly by members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). The NIA investigation has revealed the role of Jinnah, former district president of PFI Thanjavur district, in conspiring, monitoring and coordinating with other accused in this brutal murder.
Just five days before this, NIA had arrested two more absconding criminals and three other asylum seekers in case RC-06/2019/NIA/DLI. The agency took over the investigation from Thiruvidaimaruthur police on March 7, 2019. Chargesheet was filed in August 2019.
