Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK on Saturday attacked the central government over the new VB-G RAM G Bill and said that the issue is not just removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name. The DMK claimed that there is no guarantee of a total of 125 days of work in the new bill and it has all the features that can help in stopping the scheme at any time.
DMK mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ said that removing Gandhi’s name from the Employment Guarantee Scheme was not the only issue, but the very purpose of that scheme has been destroyed and this is the main issue. Murasoli said in his editorial of December 20 that other issues have been suppressed in the entire issue of removing Gandhi’s name. Removing Gandhiji’s name was not going to affect his image in any way and by removing his name, people are remembering him more and talking about him.
DMK gave ten reasons for opposing the bill
DMK party gave 10 reasons to oppose G Ram G Rural Employment Guarantee Bill and rejected that name saying it is too difficult to pronounce. Let us tell you that the Vikas Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) or VB-G RAM G Bill, which assures 125 days of guaranteed jobs for rural India, has been passed by both the houses of the Parliament.
Cost-sharing ratio of 60:40 is looting of state funds.
In the new scheme, the sharing ratio of funds has been kept at 60:40, in which 40 percent of the funds will have to be given to the state governments. DMK said the cost-sharing ratio of 60:40 between the Center and states is looting of state funds. Dravid Tamil daily states that they claim to provide work for 125 days. DMK has talked about the feature of the scheme in which work will not be done during the sowing and harvesting season.
He said that during this period, works will not be carried out under the VB-G RAM G Act and this feature will affect those who are not involved in farming work. Also, the beneficiaries will be listed using the Centre’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and this will directly impact states like Tamil Nadu which are fighting to eliminate poverty.
The plan can be stopped at any time
The DMK revealed that the new scheme could be circumvented by citing some data and claiming that poverty has been eliminated. According to the previous law, it was the right of people to get a job and now according to the new bill, a job will be given only if it is available.
This new initiative is against federalism, state autonomy because a provision gives the Center the right to decide jobs for every state. Such a clause would open the way for non-BJP ruled states to cheat.
DMK said that unlike MNREGA, there is no provision for giving compensation if the work cannot be given. There is no guarantee that work will be given for 125 days. This new bill has all the features to allow stopping the scheme at any time.
