The treatment meted out to journalists was unfortunate…Navy Chief spoke on the incident at the Defense Academy parade

The passing out parade of the 149th course of the National Defense Academy (NDA) was held in Pune on Sunday (30 November).
During this period, a case of misbehavior with journalists came to light. Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ) has expressed strong protest regarding this. Meanwhile, the statement of Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi has come to light. He has described the misbehavior with journalists as unfortunate.

Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said on Monday (December 1) that the tone and language of some officers was very wrong. He termed the misbehavior with journalists as unfortunate. He admitted that the way journalists were treated was not right. This should not have happened.

Navy Chief gave instructions to resolve the issue

The Navy Chief said that he came to know about this only through news on Monday. He said that it was an unfortunate incident. He said that the tone and language of some officers were inappropriate. The Admiral said that he has instructed the NDA Commandant to resolve the issue by talking to journalists. Along with this, he has also instructed Defense Public Relations Officer Ankush Chavan to cooperate in the talks.

Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said, ‘Officials will contact you in the coming days. Our officials should discuss and find a permanent solution to this matter. We value our cordial relations with the media.

In fact, the journalists participating in the passing out parade program on Sunday protested against the seating arrangement of the journalists, claiming that they were made to sit away from the parade ground, which was hampering the coverage. During this time a senior officer had told him that if he was dissatisfied then he should go out. After this the debate escalated and the journalists expressed their displeasure at this behavior and walked out of the program. The journalists boycotted the NDA passing out parade and remained in the parking area till the program ended.

Journalists expressed displeasure

Following the incident, a group of media persons, including a representative of the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ), submitted a formal complaint to Navy Chief Dinesh Tripathi after his address at the General BC Joshi Memorial Lecture held at Savitribai Phule Pune University on Monday (December 1). The Navy Chief had presided over the NDA passing out parade on Sunday as the inspecting officer. However, at present NDA has not issued any official statement on this entire controversy.
