Supreme Court will give priority to the cases of common people, CJI Surya Kant gave instructions, schedule released

November 29, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Matters related to the problems and freedom of common people will now be heard on priority in the Supreme Court. On the instructions of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant, the Supreme Court administration has implemented the new system and said that where there is a question of freedom of the general public or immediate interim relief is demanded, such cases will be included in the main or supplementary list within two working days after verification and error prevention.

The Supreme Court (SC) has also made it clear that a copy of all cases related to regular bail, anticipatory bail and cancellation of bail will have to be compulsorily sent to the concerned nodal officer or standing counsel of the Government of India, State Government or Union Territory. In these cases, a separate application will have to be filed, without which the case will neither be verified nor kept in the court list. The objective of this initiative of the Supreme Court is to make the hearing of cases related to the interest of the general public faster and easier.

Supreme Court releases schedule regarding listing

The Supreme Court has also issued a fixed schedule regarding the listing of new cases. Now the cases verified on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be listed on the next Monday. Cases verified on Friday, Saturday and Monday will be placed on the next Friday. Under the new system, new cases will automatically be included in the list and litigants will not need to mention their cases in the court like till now. The Supreme Court has made it clear that no mention will be accepted in the above category of cases.

Supreme Court’s strong comment on dowry system

At the same time, the Supreme Court has also made very strong remarks regarding the dowry system. The SC said that marriage, which was considered the most sacred bond of life in Indian society, has today turned into a commercial deal because of dowry. The court said that in modern times people associate marriage with gifts, money and ostentation, due to which the soul of this relationship is weakening. Dowry is cleverly described as a gift or tradition, but in reality it has taken the form of greed.

Supreme Court appealed

The Supreme Court (SC) says that marriage should be based on love, trust and equality. The court has appealed to the youth, parents and social organizations of the country to together create an environment against dowry. Without this, neither dowry deaths will stop nor atrocities on women will reduce. The court has given a clear message that dowry will end only when we consider it not a custom but an evil and oppose it with an open heart.
