
Delhi government has intensified action at the ground level to deal with air pollution. In the last 24 hours, teams of various departments have issued challans on a total of 11776 vehicles causing pollution and not following the rules. This action was taken in a coordinated and strict vigil across the city.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that the Delhi government is working together at many levels to deal with pollution. This includes vehicle inspection, dust control, waste management and strict adherence to rules. He said that it is the effect of this coordinated effort that this year there has been a slight improvement in the air quality index in winter compared to previous years.
Government said – steps are not immediate, work on policies for the whole year
He further said that the government is not limited to just immediate steps, but is continuously working on scientifically based policies and permanent reforms to be implemented throughout the year, so that Delhi’s air can be kept clean in the long run.
On the city’s cleanliness and dust control front, municipal agencies together removed 12,164.88 metric tons of garbage. Apart from this, 2,068.81 km of roads were cleaned with machines and water was sprinkled on 1,830 km of roads. Anti-smog guns were used in 5,528 km area to control dust. 160 anti-smog guns have been deployed at construction sites for continuous dust control.
Average disposal of 30,000 metric tonnes of waste in 24 hours
Progress has also been seen in the field of waste management. In the last 24 hours, on an average, more than 30,000 metric tonnes of old waste was disposed of scientifically. Public related matters were also expedited and 57 complaints received through 311, Green Delhi App, Sameer and social media were resolved.
To ensure compliance with the rules, 542 trucks running on non-scheduled routes were stopped and sent back. Besides, traffic was eased at 34 major traffic jam spots in the city.
Sirsa appealed to citizens, institutions and drivers to completely follow the pollution control rules of the government. He said that this fight against pollution is not only the government’s. All departments are alert day and night, but public cooperation is equally important to provide clean air to Delhi.
