December 17, 2025 by Uma Shankar

After the start of the SIR process in West Bengal, the Election Commission has released the draft list. The Election Commission has released two lists. One list contains the names of voters and the other list mainly contains the names of those people whom the Election Commission could not find while filling the Enumeration Form. The number of such people is around 58 lakh.

This contains a list of those whose families have said that they have been killed. Apart from this, there are also those people who themselves have shifted to other constituencies or are missing, but there are a lot of discrepancies in the information, or there are names of many people whose 2002 election is missing. Sir Not in the list but in the draft list.

The Election Commission has started scrutiny of this draft list. All those who have submitted the Enumeration Form are in the draft list. Now the commission will start scrutiny and ancestry mapping and then if there is any difference in all these names, the Election Commission will call them for hearing one by one.

Name is in the draft list, what will be the hearing?

Your name is in the draft list, it does not mean that you are safe. If for some reason there is any problem with your information or the commission suspects you, then it will summon you and for that, be prepared with valid documents in advance.

The Election Commission has repeatedly said that even if the name is not there, there is nothing to fear if you are a resident of West Bengal. This time you will be called for hearing. Their documents will be checked and after checking the authenticity of the documents, the voter’s name will be included in the voter list.

Let us know what are the documents which will have to be shown during the hearing:-

* Identity card as a State or Central Government employee or pension holder

* Documents given by Post Office, Bank, LIC or Local Authorities before 1987

* Birth Certificate

* Passport

* National Register of Citizens (only for Assam)

* Family register given by local administration

Your Aadhar card alone will not be accepted as an identity document.

What if your name is not in the draft list?

According to the Election Commission, in such cases, you will have to enroll your name in the voter list by filling Annexure-IV of Form 6. If your name is on the 2002 SIR electoral roll, can you be called for a hearing? According to the Election Commission, it depends on the discretion of the Electoral Registration Officer.

If someone shows fake documents, will he be punished?

According to Section 337 of the Indian Judicial Code, whoever makes a fake document can be punished with imprisonment of up to seven years and fine.

According to Election Commission sources, every form is analyzed using their application software and all the information given by the elector is studied. On the basis of this, it will be decided whether the person will be called for hearing or not.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India had fixed 50 hearings every day in one assembly seat. However, EC is now considering increasing the number. A senior Election Commission official said, we have to complete all the hearings within a stipulated time. Therefore, if necessary, we may have to increase the number of hearings by more than a hundred.
