Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that President Putin will meet US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff before leaving on a state visit to India on December 4 and 5.
This meeting will take place between Putin and Witkoff before his visit to India. Which will be in the Kremlin regarding Russia-Ukraine peace. Jared Kushner and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff are heading to Moscow on Monday, where they will meet with President Vladimir Putin, according to an official familiar with US plans. American officials—who spoke on condition of anonymity—said that a meeting with Putin is scheduled for Tuesday.
Why is the meeting important for India
Witkoff, Kushner and Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian representatives in Florida earlier on Sunday. The meeting between Putin and America just before his visit to India is being considered very important for India. The impact of this meeting will be visible on the India-Russia agreement. Due to reduction in tension between Russia and America, American tariff against India will be reduced by 25%.
There is also American pressure on India’s talks with Russia for S-500 and Sukhoi-57. This will have an impact on this also. India visit and agreement with India may also be discussed in the Putin-Wittkoff meeting.
Ukraine-US meeting
The president’s son-in-law and special envoy—who played a key role in stopping the fighting between Israel and Hamas—discussed Trump’s 28-point peace plan for Russia and Ukraine for several hours in South Florida. Trump told reporters that he spoke to Rubio after the meeting.
Trump said, “Ukraine has some tough problems. We have some tough problems, but I think Russia wants to see the war end and Ukraine — I know — also wants to see it end.”
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustam Umerov, described the meeting as “productive and successful.” However, now after Ukraine, America will talk with Russia.
What did Zelensky say about the meeting?
In a statement issued after the talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the need for a “clear focus on ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and national interests.” He also said that he is grateful to America, President Trump’s team and the President himself that he is devoting so much of his time to end the war.
