
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal has suffered a shock. Chandigarh District Court on Wednesday (December 17) canceled the bail of Sukhbir Singh Badal and issued non-bailable warrant against him in the eight-year-old defamation case.
The court took this action when Sukhbir Badal did not appear during the hearing. This order was passed by the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rahul Garg. This case is related to the complaint filed in the year 2017 by Rajinder Pal Singh, spokesperson of Akhand Kirtani Jatha and resident of Mohali. The case has been registered under section 499 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Next hearing will be on 9 January 2026
Sukhbir Singh Badal did not appear in the court during the hearing, after which the court canceled his bail and issued non-bailable warrants. The court has fixed the next hearing date of the case as 9 January 2026. The court has also warned that if Sukhbir Badal does not appear on the next date, more stringent orders can be passed against him.

This is a case of 2017
This matter is of January 4, 2017, when the then Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal met Rajinder Pal Singh at his residence in Delhi. After this meeting, a defamation complaint was filed in the Chandigarh District Court on the basis of the alleged statement given by Sukhbir Singh Badal.
What did Sukhbir Singh Badal say
In an interview given to the media, Sukhbir Singh Badal had described Akhand Kirtani Jatha as the political front of the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International. This statement was widely circulated in newspapers and TV channels, causing serious damage to the image and reputation of the organization.
The complaint also mentions the alleged statement given by Sukhbir Badal at that time, in which he had said, ‘Kejriwal comes to Punjab and starts associating with fundamentalists. The day before yesterday he was having breakfast with Akhand Kirtani Jatha, which is the political front of Babbar Khalsa International, which is the biggest terrorist organization.
