
Recently FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has asked for samples of eggs from different parts of the country for testing. This has been done because the organization had received a complaint that Nitrofurans were being used on chickens in some poultry farms. These are a kind of antibiotics which are used to prevent rapid growth and infection in chickens, although it is banned in India, but it is feared that they are being used.
If Nitrofurans are given to chickens then the chemicals present in them can harm their eggs I also go there. In such a situation, for those who consume eggs, eating eggs can be a threat to their health.
How are Nitrofurans dangerous for health?

There is a risk of many diseases due to this. Many such chemicals are present in these medicines which damage the liver and kidney cells. Due to this, there is a risk of fatty liver and kidney diseases. However, this danger occurs when a person eats such eggs for a long time which are from hens dosed with Nitrofurans.
Dr. Ghotekar says that Nitrofurans have been banned for many years because excessive growth was seen in the animals in which these medicines were injected. Investigation also found that these medicines are fatal for the human body. In such a situation, it was banned in many countries including India, but in some cases it is possible that these banned medicines are being used in poultry form, in such a situation FSSAI has taken the right step because if these medicines are used on a large scale then it can be very harmful for human health.
Is there a risk of getting cancer?
There is no risk of cancer if you eat eggs containing Nitrofurans for a month or two. This happens when a person has been eating such eggs for years. When these medicines enter the body for a long time, they damage the intestinal cells. There is inflammation and in some cases the cells can grow rapidly which later causes cancer.
How can common people identify whether an egg contains Nitrofurans or not?
Dr. Ghotekar says that it is difficult to identify this drug just by looking at home or eating eggs. This is because it cannot be detected by colour, taste or smell. It is not that if you boil the eggs properly then this will go away. This can be detected only through lab test. However, try to always buy eggs from FSSAI licensed shops or brands.
