Pakistan’s Army Chief and Field Marshal Asim Munir has suffered a shock. Even after the deadline of 29th November, no notification has come out regarding the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF). Due to this, it is not clear what position Asim Munir is holding at present. In fact, he officially ended his tenure as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on the night of 29 November. After this, he was to be crowned on the post of CDF, but till now the public notification for this has not been issued.
Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir will be given the new and additional post of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and his tenure will also be changed. But, on November 29, his three-year tenure ended and till now the government has not issued any new notification.
Asim Munir’s strength will increase
The Shahbaz Sharif government of Pakistan had recently created this post through a constitutional amendment. Regarding this amendment, it is being said that it will increase the power of Asim Munir. But now the delay regarding appointment is raising many questions.
Through the amendment, the post of CDF has been created in place of the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. Due to this, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has retired from the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff on 27th November. Now it is expected that when will Asim Munir be crowned on his new post.
Why is there a delay?
Questions are being raised over Asim Munir not getting the post of CDF till now. After continuous questions being raised on this matter, Union Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized the speculations and clarified that the process of appointment of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) has started. He wrote on social media site X that the process of issuing the notification has started.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently in the United Kingdom and will return to the country tonight. On this, Khawaja Asif further said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will soon return to the country and the notification regarding the new CDF will be issued at the appropriate time. He said that there is no scope for speculation in this matter.
Quoting sources, the report said that a formal command ceremony for the Chief of Defense Forces may take place after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns from London next week. The much-awaited notification is expected to be made officially public before the event.
Will Asim Munir become the most powerful?
The 27th Constitutional Amendment places the Pakistan Army Chief at the top of the military command structure, giving him control over the three services and the National Strategic Command. Experts said that the delay in notification is a technical reason and not any threat to the appointment.
