Pakistani Navy got Ghazi after 54 years, it was sunk by India in 1971 war

December 18, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Pakistan Navy has included a submarine named PNS-Ghazi in its fleet after 54 years. In the 1971 war, India had sunk Pakistan’s PNS-Ghazi submarine near Visakhapatnam port. Pakistan’s situation in the war became dire only after the sinking of PNS-Ghazi, after which it announced surrender in the war. However, Pakistan never accepted that its submarine was shot and sunk by India.

This time according to Jio TV Pakistan The submarines named after Ghazi have been purchased from China. Last time, Pakistan had purchased a submarine from America, the wreckage of which is still lying near Visakhapatnam port.

How is PAK’s new PNS-Ghazi?

According to the report, the submarine which Pakistan has named Ghazi is a Chinese Type 039A/039B submarine. This submarine has been prepared by China in Karachi itself. Pakistan is promoting it by calling it Made in Pakistan. In 2015, Pakistan had made a deal with China to buy it. Now it will be handed over to Pakistan in 2026.

According to the report of Naval Today, the new submarine of PNS Ghazi weighs around 2800 tonnes. Its length is said to be 77 meters. This submarine can accommodate 35-40 crew members simultaneously. Apart from this, there is space for personnel also.

This submarine can move in the sea at a speed of 20 knots. Subsurface launched cruise missile can also be added to PNS-Ghazi. Its biggest specialty is that its movement is not detected. That means when it goes out to sea for operation, no one will be able to get information about it.

What happened to the old PNS-Ghazi?

During the Bangladesh Liberation War, when INS-Vikrant was attacking Pakistan’s military bases, Pakistan sent PNS Ghazi towards the Bay of Bengal to kill it. Before coming to the Bay of Bengal, this submarine was taken to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the news spread that India’s INS Vikrant is in Visakhapatnam.

It is said that Vikrant was not in Visakhapatnam at that time. Indian military agencies had deliberately leaked this news. As soon as Pakistan received this news, PNS-Ghazi was sent to Visakhapatnam. Even before Visakhapatnam, fuel started leaking from inside the Ghazi.

The crew tried their best to stop it, but could not succeed. Here, INS-Rajput standing near Visakhapatnam port attacked in the sea on the basis of estimation. A few hours after this attack, a massive explosion occurred near Visakhapatnam port. This explosion took place in the submarine Ghazi. Due to the explosion, PNS-Ghazi was completely reduced to debris.
