Pakistan is currently facing the increasing threat of suicide blasts. The security situation in Pakistan has continuously deteriorated in recent months. Anti-army activities have increased rapidly especially in border areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. So far this year, there have been 25 suicide attacks, in which about 100 Pakistani soldiers have been killed. There were 4 major incidents of suicide attacks in November. Suicide bombers are targeting army positions. Troubled by this, the government of Pakistan has taken the help of clerics.
500 clerics of Pakistan have issued a joint fatwa, in which suicide attacks and terrorism have been described as against Islam. This fatwa was jointly issued by Pak Ulema Council and clerics of other religious organizations. It says that suicide attacks are not only haraam in Shariah, but they also cause huge harm to the country, society and innocent people.
Suicide attack contrary to religious teachings
Clerics say such attacks have no place in Islam and are completely contrary to the teachings of the religion. Several recent attacks in Pakistan have worried the government and security agencies. It was claimed in many reports that some organizations are preparing suicide squads and are planning to target government facilities, police checkposts and security forces.
Intelligence agencies had also warned that terrorist groups were organizing and planning major attacks. The joint statement of the muftis said that Islam and Pakistan are inseparable. The government says that this initiative of religious leaders will help in gathering public support against terrorism. The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Home Ministry have also welcomed this step.
Special appeal to the youth
In this fatwa, a special appeal has been made to the youth that they should not get misled by terrorist organizations and should not consider violence or suicidal action justified in the name of religion. Maulvis said that Islam gives the message of peace, brotherhood and protection of human life.
