
Pakistan Police on Wednesday (December 17) registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the sisters of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and dozens of their supporters for protesting outside Adiala jail. The former PM’s sisters and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers had protested outside the jail on Tuesday, after which this case has been registered against them.
In fact, the authorities had refused to allow the relatives and lawyers of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to meet him. After this, the angry sisters and supporters demonstrated outside the jail and raised slogans against the government and police administration.
FIR registered under Anti-Terrorism Act
According to the police, an FIR has been lodged against Khan’s two sisters Aleema Khan and Noreen Niazi as well as party leaders and supporters, including Salman Akram Raja, Naeem Panjotha, Qasim Khan, Aliya Hamza, Raja Nasir Abbas, under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act at Rawalpindi’s Sadar Beroni police station.
Section 120 of Pakistan Penal Code also imposed
The police have also invoked Section 120 of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy against the state, attacking policemen and violating Section 144. According to the police, at least 14 suspects were arrested on the spot last night and efforts are on to arrest others involved in the crimes mentioned in the FIR.
Imran Khan is in jail since 2023
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is in jail since August 2023. Several cases have been registered against him since his ouster from power in April 2022. Authorities have banned visits to Khan without prior notice, on the pretext that visitors use such visits for political purposes. The last meeting with Khan was on December 2, when his sister Uzma Khan was allowed to meet him. Imran Khan’s supporters are continuously demanding his release. Recently, many types of news related to Khan’s health had come to light.
