Delhi’s AQI has remained serious for a long time and Delhiites are facing many health related problems due to it. Former IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi on Saturday expressed concern over the worsening air pollution in Delhi and asked government officials to visit highly polluted places and breathe the smog air themselves.
Kiran Bedi asked government officials to take care of the public instead of taking care of themselves. Bedi’s statement came a day after she appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally intervene and direct efforts to reduce air pollution.
Bedi has shared a responsibility plan to deal with air pollution in her post. In which he has given 6 points.
- MoEFCC National Standards and Fuel Rules to be implemented
- Uniform instructions and compliance should be ensured in CAQM NCR
- PMO brings together specific ministries to work together
- CMs, CSs, and DGPs of states should help in implementing it in all departments.
- District Magistrate should lead the implementation in the field daily
- Municipal bodies, police and pollution boards should ensure garbage, dust, traffic and industrial compliance.
He further said that if every agency plays its role with leadership, visibility, consistency and coordination, then the air pollution of NCR can be controlled effectively.

He wrote, “Sir, forgive me for asking again. But I have seen your very effective Zoom sessions during my time in Puducherry, how you motivated everyone to deliver results on time in many national challenges. How you motivated everyone to meet deadlines and targets.” Kiran Bedi shares ‘Responsibility Plan’ to deal with pollution.
Delhi’s air is not improving
This statement of Kiran Bedi has come at a time when the country’s capital has been struggling with poor air quality for the last few months. The air quality of New Delhi has remained in very poor category for several weeks, due to which people are not getting any relief. According to CPCB data, the worst air quality index (AQI) of 324 was recorded in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Sunday.
Very poor AQI has been recorded in the capital almost every day of November, while on three days this month the air quality crossed 400 and went into the severe category.
