NHAI signs MoU with Reliance Jio: There is big news for people traveling on national highways. NHAI has signed an agreement with Reliance Jio to launch a mobile-based safety alert system. Through this, more than 50 crore users of Jio will get advance warning about accident-prone places, fog, stray animal areas and sudden diversions while traveling on the highway. Alerts will be sent through SMS, WhatsApp and high-priority calls. Initially this system will be implemented on some highways as a pilot project.
What will change with the agreement between NHAI and Jio?
The main objective of the MoU between NHAI and Reliance Jio is to strengthen the safety of passengers on the highway. Through Jio’s wide network, drivers will get real-time alerts while driving on the road, which can reduce the chances of accidents. The system will be completely automated and will send necessary information to Jio users based on their location on the highway. NHAI says that this initiative will become a new standard for the use of technology in road safety.
How will mobile based safety alert system work?
This system is based on Jio’s 4G and 5G network, so no new hardware will be required at the roadside. Alerts will be sent to users around the highway as per their route through SMS, WhatsApp and high-priority calls. Drivers will be able to take precautions by getting advance information about accident-prone areas, foggy areas, stray animal zones and emergency diversions. This is also expected to strengthen highway traffic management.
The system will be connected to the Highway Yatra app and helpline 1033.
NHAI said that the safety alert system will be linked to Rajmargyatra mobile app and emergency helpline 1033 in a phased manner. With this, passengers will be able to get real-time road conditions, emergency support and alerts on a single platform. It will start with a pilot project, which will be implemented on some national highways. After successful testing, it will be rolled out across the country, which will benefit crores of passengers.
