
Special NIA court has issued non-bailable warrant against Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin. The court has issued this non-bailable warrant in a 2012 terror case, which was registered at Police Station Budgam under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 506 RPC.
The warrant has been issued after the court found that Salahuddin, a resident of Soibo, Budgam, had fled to Pakistan to avoid arrest. The court found that the case involved offenses under sections 13, 18, 20 and 39 of the UAEPA and the material collected by the investigating officer prima facie links Salahuddin to terrorist activities.
NIA court had declared him a fugitive
Relying on Section 73 of CrPC, the Special Judge has directed Jammu and Kashmir Police to arrest Salahuddin in connection with FIR No. 331/2012 and complete further legal formalities including trial in absentia after sanction. Earlier, the NIA court had formally declared him a fugitive and ordered him to appear in the court before August 30, 2025.
Real name Mohammad Yusuf Shah
Syed Salauddin is the leader of Hizbul Mujahideen. His real name is Mohammad Yusuf Shah. He is the head of Hizbul Mujahideen, a terrorist organization active in Kashmir. He also heads the United Jihad Council, a Pakistan-based ISI-sponsored jihadist terrorist group. Syed Salauddin is a resident of Soibo village in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. He is included in the list of most wanted terrorists of India’s National Investigation Agency. He has been designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US State Department. Syed Salahuddin was born in December 1946 in Soibo, Budgam in the Kashmir Valley.
Hizbul Mujahideen chief
Syed Salahuddin was arrested for violent protests during the 1989 elections. After his release, he joined Hizbul Mujahideen founded by Mohammad Ahsan Dar alias ‘Master’. After this he soon took over as the chief of Hizbul Mujahideen.
