
The Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police has registered a new FIR against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. In this FIR, six other people and three companies have been made accused along with him.
The allegation is that a criminal conspiracy was hatched to fraudulently take over Congress-linked company AJL (Associated Journals Limited). Let us tell you that this FIR has been registered on the complaint of ED on October 3. ED shared its investigation report with Delhi Police and now Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the leaders associated with it.
Who all were made accused?
Under Section 66(2) of PMLA, ED can ask any agency to register a scheduled crime. Under this, names of Congress leaders have been added to the FIR. Which includes Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda (Indian Overseas Congress chief) and three others. Besides, three companies, AJL, Young Indian, Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd have also been made accused.
Allegation of buying property worth Rs 2000 crore for Rs 50 lakh
The National Herald case is a long-running controversial case involving the historic newspaper National Herald, launched by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. This newspaper was deeply associated with the Congress Party and the responsibility of its publication was with a company called Associated Journals Limited (AJL). AJL had properties worth about Rs 2 thousand crores in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai etc. It was given to the accused for just Rs 50 lakh.
Congress denied the allegations
The allegations made in this matter are being rejected by the Congress for a long time. Congress says that this matter is politically influenced. This case remains a political challenge for Congress, while BJP is calling it a symbol of corruption. Police can interrogate AJL shareholders. The court’s decision on the ED charge sheet is pending.
