November 30, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Congress is furious after the police registered a new FIR against Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case. The Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police has registered a new FIR against 9 people including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and three companies in the National Herald case. It is alleged that a criminal conspiracy was hatched to grab the assets worth Rs 2000 crore of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) for just Rs 50 lakh.

Many Congress leaders have attacked the new action taken by the police. Congress leader Sandeep Dixit said, “This is a completely fake case. Our lawyers have repeatedly said that there is no case of money laundering anywhere and secondly, it is a non-profit organisation, so where will the profit come from?”

While posting an X on this matter, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh Lika said, “Modi-Shah duo is continuously doing politics of intimidation and political vendetta against the top leadership of Congress. Those who are themselves insecure and afraid, they try to scare others.” Jayaram claimed that the National Herald case is completely false and baseless. National Herald case

The National Herald case is a long-running controversial case involving the historic newspaper National Herald, launched by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. This has once taken a political turn in the discussions.

This newspaper was deeply associated with the Congress Party and the responsibility of its publication was with a company called Associated Journals Limited (AJL). AJL had properties worth about Rs 2 thousand crores in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai etc. It was given to the accused for just Rs 50 lakh.
