Maharashtra civic elections: Voting date changed in 24 city councils and panchayats, now elections will be held on December 20

December 1, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Maharashtra Election Commission has amended the election schedule for 24 Municipal Councils-Nagar Panchayats and 154 member posts. After the end of the appeal period on these seats and in view of the court orders coming on or after 23 November 2025, the election process will now run as per the revised schedule. Voting at all these places will be held on 20 December 2025. At the same time, in those Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats where no appeal was pending, voting will be held on December 2, 2025 as per the previously announced schedule.

Why was the program changed?

Elections for 246 Municipal Councils and 42 Nagar Panchayats were announced in the state on 4 November 2025. At many places, appeals were pending in the Jilani court against the orders of the nomination and election adjudicating officer. November 21 was the last date for appeals, but decisions on many appeals came on or after November 23, 2025.

For this reason, the election process in these 24 Municipal Council-Nagar Panchayats will now start again in the subsequent phases. According to law, it is necessary to elect the posts of Chairman and members together. Therefore, where there was an appeal pending on the post of President, the elections for the entire area will be held as per the revised schedule. Where there was an appeal on only a few member posts, the new schedule will be applicable only on those seats.

revised election schedule

  • Last date for withdrawal of nomination forms: 10 December 2025, till 3 pm
  • Final candidate list and election symbol allotment: 11 December 2025
  • Voting: 20 December 2025, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
