Anil Kapoor Call: Anil Kapoor has done many films in his career. He entered films as a lead actor in the year 1983 with the film ‘Woh Saat Din’. But he had to wait till 2001 for his first National Award. Anil Kapoor was awarded the Best Actor Award for the film ‘Pukar’ released in the year 2000. But you will be surprised to know that for the film in which Anil won the National Award for Best Actor with his strong acting, he was not the first choice of the makers.
Anil Kapoor And Madhuri Dixit’s film Pukar was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film was produced by Anil’s brother Boney Kapoor. However, reports say that Anil was not Boney and Rajkumar Santoshi’s first choice for the film. Actually, the makers wanted Sunny Deol to play the role of Major Jaidev Rajvansh in the film. Sunny Deol was a big star during that period and every film of his was a bumper earner. Although Sunny Deol had rejected the film.
Why did you reject the role?
Pukar was released on 11 February 2000. Although Sunny Deol has never told about the reason for rejecting this film. However, the main reason seems to be that Sunny Deol had many films at that time. Five films of Sunny Deol were released between 1999 and 2001. In 1999, the first film Pyaar Koi Khel Nahi was released on 30 July. Arjun Pandit came on 20th August. Dillagi on 19th November. In the year 2000, Champion was released on 1 December and Fergie on 12 January. That means, it is clear that Sunny Deol was very busy from 1999 to 2001 and work on the film Pukar must have been done during this period.
The film remained sluggish at the box office
Although this film of Anil Kapoor and Madhuri was liked, it could not do much at the box office. The film did a business of only Rs 13.30 crore and proved to be a flop. Apart from Anil Kapoor’s Best Actor award, it also received the National Award for Best Film.
