December 20, 2025 by Uma Shankar

Kakbhushundi Katha: Ramayana is an important text of Hindu religion, which describes the exploits of Lord Rama. It describes many divine characters, who are beyond the limits of time. Kakbhushundi ji is included in these characters. In Uttarkand of Shri Ramcharit Manas, Tulsidas ji has described his divine form. Their form is that of a crow, but their consciousness is full of Brahma knowledge. It is believed that Kakabhushundi ji is the guru of the bird king Garuda and the master of euthanasia. In such a situation, let us know about Kakabhushundi ji.

According to mythology, Kakabhushundi was a Brahmin in his previous birth. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, but out of pride he insulted his Guru. Due to this, sage Lomesh cursed him, as a result of which he became a crow. However, after taking the form of Kaak, he completely immersed himself in the devotion of Lord Rama.

According to Ramayana…

He considered this form as the wish of the Lord and accepted it. Then he lived on Neel Parvat for ages. Enjoyed and read Ramkatha. There was so much depth in his devotion that even the bird king Garuda went to him for solution when he had any doubt. According to Ramayana, after Meghnad tied Lord Rama in a snake’s noose, Garuda freed him.

At that time Garuda ji thought that how can one who gets himself tied up in the trap become Narayan? After this Lord Shiva instructed him to go to Kakabhushundi ji. Then Garuda reached Kakabhushundi ji. Kakbhushundi ji narrated him the story of Ram and told him that the Lord’s pastimes are beyond logic.

Mahadev gave the boon of euthanasia

Mahadev himself used to come to Kakbhushundi ji in disguise to listen to the story of Ram. Lord Shiva was very pleased with his devotion and gave a boon that even time would not be able to touch him. Also, Lord Shiva gave the boon of voluntary death to Kakabhushundi ji. It is believed that due to this boon, Kakbhushundi ji became timeless.
