Indigo’s troubles have not subsided yet. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has decided to initiate an investigation against IndiGo regarding the flight crisis. CCI, the body that monitors fair trade in the country, will investigate the matter as per the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 on the basis of the information filed against the airline.
Recently, more than 5000 Indigo flights were canceled on different routes. Lakhs of passengers were affected by this. This investigation is being done under Section 4 of the Competition Act 2002. If proven guilty, CCI can impose fine on IndiGo. Right now this is the initial stage.
CCI first conducts a preliminary investigation based on the information received and then the Director General can order a formal investigation. Indigo has said that its operations are now normal and it will cooperate. On the other hand, DGCA is also separately investigating this matter. CCI has taken cognizance of more than one complaint and has decided to investigate on the basis of prima facie opinion.
More than 5000 flights canceled
In fact, in the beginning of December, there was large-scale flight cancellation and operational disruption of IndiGo, in which more than 5000 flights were canceled and lakhs of passengers were affected. The main reason for this is said to be IndiGo’s alleged lack of preparation in implementing the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules, which led to the shortage of pilots.
