
India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka is facing the brunt of natural disaster. Here people are facing a lot of difficulties due to rain and floods. To help the neighboring country in this difficult time, the C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka today carrying about 12 tons of relief material. This goods has been sent under Operation Sagar Bandhu. The aircraft includes food items, medicines and essential relief materials. The Indian team handed over this help to the Sri Lankan authorities at Colombo Airport.
According to disaster management officials, 43,991 people from 12,313 families have been affected due to bad weather here. 56 people have died here due to bad weather and landslides. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that Operation Sagar Bandhu has started. INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri handed over relief material in Colombo. Further action is underway.
The Foreign Minister said that the C-130 J plane of the Indian Air Force reached Colombo carrying about 12 tonnes of humanitarian aid. This includes tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits and ready-to-eat food items.

What is Operation Sagar Bandhu?
Operation Sagar Bandhu is a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission of the Indian Navy. It has been started to help neighboring countries during natural disasters or emergencies. The word Sagar resonates with India’s maritime vision Security and Growth for All in the Region, while Bandhu means friend, reflecting India’s role as a supportive partner in the Indian Ocean region.

Under this operation, India sends naval ships, aircraft, medical teams and relief supplies to countries affected by cyclones, floods or other crises, providing immediate assistance such as food, medicines, rescue assistance and logistics.
