
A case has been registered against 12 people for the killing of Indian Nilgai in Pakistan. Police said on Saturday that a Nilgai that had entered Pakistan from India was killed by more than a dozen people allegedly for destroying their crops. The incident took place in Bahawalnagar, about 400 km from Lahore, when the Nilgai had crossed the Indian border last week.
Punjab Police on Saturday said they have registered a case against 12 people for hunting, torturing and killing an Indian nilgai, although no arrests have been made so far.
FIR registered on complaint of wildlife ranger
An FIR has been registered on the complaint of senior wildlife ranger Seemab Fatima. Police said the wildlife team saw about 12 armed men chasing the Indian Nilgai, tiring it out and injuring it with sticks. Seeing the team, they ran away leaving the Nilgai in a bad condition. Nilgai later succumbed to his wounds. It was learned that despite receiving timely information from the public, the wildlife team did not take immediate action. Police said that hungry Nilgai often enter people’s fields in search of food.
