India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series by defeating South Africa by 17 runs in the first ODI played in Ranchi. Batting first, India scored 349 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Virat Kohli played an excellent century of 135 runs, which was the 83rd century of his career. Rohit Sharma contributed 57 runs and captain KL Rahul contributed 60 runs. Chasing the target of 350 runs, South Africa presented a tough challenge and took the match till the last over, where they were all out for 332 runs.
