HP will remove 6000 employees, why are high-salary tech jobs not safe?

November 28, 2025 by Uma Shankar

HP 6000 Job Cuts: The tsunami of layoffs in the tech sector is showing no sign of stopping. After Apple, now HP has also announced layoffs. HP will fire 6,000 employees by 2028, while Apple has also quietly eliminated dozens of positions from its sales team. According to the report, more than 1 lakh tech professionals have lost their jobs so far in 2025. AI, cost cutting and business restructuring are considered to be the main reasons behind this big crisis.

6,000 people will be laid off in HP

HP Inc. has confirmed that it will eliminate 4,000 to 6,000 jobs over the next three years. The company says that this move is part of a larger AI-driven restructuring plan, under which product development, internal operations and customer support teams will be most impacted. HP CEO Enrique Lores said that the company wants to save about $1 billion in the next three years. Even before this, HP had laid off 2,000 people this year.

Apple also quietly laid off, cut sales team

According to Bloomberg’s report, Apple has eliminated dozens of sales roles, especially account managers and briefing center staff. The company says that this step has been taken so that the process of connecting with customers can be better. Affected employees have been given the opportunity to apply for other roles within the company. This move comes at a time when Apple’s sales are expected to reach $140 billion (Rs 1.24 lakh crore) in the December quarter.

More than 1 lakh jobs lost so far in 2025, why the crisis increased

According to Layoffs.fyi, so far in 2025, 218 companies have laid off more than 112,732 employees. This trend, which started in January, was fastest in April, when 24,500 jobs were lost in a single month. Companies say that due to AI and automation the need for old roles is decreasing. Apart from this, the slowness of the global economy and the need for cost control has further intensified the layoffs.

Giants like Amazon, Intel, TCS are also doing layoffs on a large scale.

Amazon made the biggest layoff in history, eliminating more than 30,000 corporate roles. The company says that AI investment and over-hiring during the pandemic are the main reasons for this. Intel decided to cut 24,000 jobs, which is about 22% of its total workforce. Whereas in India, TCS laid off about 20,000 employees this year. The company is now focusing on AI and automation, due to which mid and senior level roles have been affected the most.

Why are tech jobs falling apart?

AI-driven automation has given companies the option to do more work with fewer people, causing traditional tech roles to rapidly disappear. Also, companies are increasingly relying on outsourcing and third-party channels instead of internal teams to save costs. Many giant companies, such as Apple and Amazon, have also started shifting their sales and support roles to third-party partners. Because of this, a large portion of jobs around the world are at risk.
