According to the data given by the Home Ministry, out of 60 sanctioned posts of DCP/Additional DCP, 13 posts are vacant. At the ACP level, 125 out of 346 posts, 108 out of 1453 Inspector posts and 1039 out of 8087 Sub-Inspector posts are vacant. Maximum vacancies have been recorded in the lower ranks. The government also said that the recruitment process is going on continuously and efforts are being made to fill the vacant posts. Recently there was an explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. In such a situation, the reduction in the number of lower rank posts called frontline policemen is a matter of concern.
