
235 newly elected MLAs took oath in the 18th session of Bihar Assembly. Of these, 209 MLAs took oath in Hindi, while 26 MLAs took oath in Maithili, Urdu, Sanskrit and English. Many prominent faces including Maithili Thakur paid respect to their languages. Protem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav conducted the proceedings. Seven MLAs have not been able to take oath yet.
These seven MLAs will be sworn in later. Those who took oath in English included Vishnudev Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Siddharth Saurabh of BJP and Chetan Anand and Rahul Singh of JDU. Those who took oath in Sanskrit included BJP MLA Tarkishore Prasad from Katihar, JDU’s Ratnesh Sada and Mukesh Kumar from Sonbarsa.
14 MLAs from Mithilanchal region took oath in Maithili.
Apart from this, 14 MLAs from Mithilanchal region took oath in their mother tongue Maithili. These include Arun Shankar Prasad (Khajauli), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Thili Thakur (Alinagar), Sudhanshu Shekhar (Harlakhi), Vinod Narayan Jha (Benipatti), Meena Kamat (Babubarhi), Madhav Anand (Madhubani), Sujit Kumar (Rajnagar), Vinay Chaudhary (Benipur), Rajesh Kumar Mandal (Darbhanga Rural), Sanjay Saraogi (Darbhanga), Ramchandra. Prasad (Hayaghat), Murari Mohan Jha (Kevati) and Asif Ahmed (Bisfi).
Those who took oath in Urdu included Congress’s Abidur Rehman, Mohammad Murshid Alam, Kamrul Hoda and Sarwar Alam and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akhtarul Iman. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Protem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav, who was already sworn in by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan at the Raj Bhavan.
