During bad times, he had only Rs 400 left in the bank. He had to mortgage his house and office. This actor is none other than Anupam Kher who has worked in more than 500 films.
Anupam Kher has been working in Bollywood for more than 4 decades. He has played many great characters in his acting career of more than 40 years. Now in a conversation he has talked about his struggle. His condition was like this when he had earned a big name in Bollywood. Then he decided to do new experiments in television through a production house. But, the move backfired.
‘I almost went bankrupt…’
Anupam Kher told in a podcast that in 2004 his financial condition had become very bad. He said, “In 2004, I almost went bankrupt because I wanted to become a TV tycoon. The situation became so bad that only Rs 400 was left in the bank account.”

Home and office were mortgaged
Anupam Kher further said, “We were borrowing money and I was the first person in my family to see Rs 10,000 together in our 100-year family history. The interest kept increasing and became so high that my chartered accountant told me that we were on the verge of bankruptcy, as only Rs 400 were left in the bank. Both the house and office are mortgaged.”
Now the fee for a film is Rs 3 crore
Even in bad circumstances, Anupam showed dedication towards his work and continued doing films and changed his circumstances again. When he was asked in a conversation how much amount he charges for a film now, the actor said, “Now I earn around Rs 2 to 3 crores from every film. My situation is good.” Anupam Kher, who was recently seen in the film ‘The Bengal Files’, made his debut with the 1984 film ‘Saaransh’. Then 28 year old Anupam played the role of a 60 year old man.
