
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has given a major boost to the maritime defense goal of self-reliant India by handing over another state-of-the-art Fast Patrol Vessel to the Indian Coast Guard. ICGS Amulya is the third ship in the series of eight FPVs, designed entirely based on Indian technology and expertise.
The handing-over ceremony was held at Goa, which was notably attended by GSL Chairman and Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Director (Operations) Rear Admiral (Retd) Nelson D’Souza, Director (Finance) Jahangir Alam Ansari, Coast Guard officer DIG VK Parmar, and Commandant (JG) Anupam Singh, Commanding Officer of ICGS Amulya.
Capabilities and technical features of ICGS Amulya
This ship, 51.43 meters long and weighing 330 tonnes, is a great example of advanced design and modern technology. It is powered by two powerful marine diesel engines, coupled to a controllable pitch propeller (CPP). This is the first use of CPP technology in FPVs of this class, which significantly increases the speed and maneuverability of the aircraft:

This multi-purpose ship meets all the needs of the Indian Coast Guard which are important in protecting the coast and maritime borders. The ship will be primarily deployed in fishermen protection, EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) surveillance, coastal patrol operations, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations, Search & Rescue missions.

The delivery of ICGS Amulya not only showcases GSL’s manufacturing capability but also increases indigenization in the defense sector. Goa Shipyard is continuously building such platforms which along with meeting the maritime security needs of India, are also taking the country forward towards becoming the shipbuilding hub of the world. The deployment of this ship will provide a significant boost to the rapid response capability and maritime surveillance of the Indian Coast Guard.
