Kerala’s Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil has been accused of sexual assault and forcing him to terminate her pregnancy. According to the police, a case has been registered against the MLA. This case was registered at Valiyamala Police Station on the basis of the statement recorded by the woman late on Thursday night. The complaining woman had approached Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday with her complaint against the suspended Congress MLA.
According to sources, her detailed statement was later recorded by women police officers at Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police Headquarters. The process regarding these matters continued till late night. After this it was decided to register a case. A case has been registered against the MLA under different sections for sexual assault, forced abortion and criminal intimidation by making false promise of marriage.
Police is searching for the MLA
The police will go to Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court to record the confidential statement of the complaining woman. In this case, a team of doctors will soon examine the medical condition of the woman. MLA Mamkoottathil has reportedly gone into hiding after the woman contacted the Chief Minister. The police have started trying to find him.
Congress leaders in Palakkad said that Mamkoottathil was actively campaigning in Kannada area for the local body elections till around 4 pm on Thursday. After this, he and one of his close associates were not seen for a long time. Earlier, the crime branch had registered a case on the basis of audio clips and chat messages. These came to light after third party people sent an email to the police headquarters, because the woman had not come forward at that time.
Membership was suspended in August
Another audio clip was released here two days ago. In this, the MLA had allegedly expressed his desire to have a child, but later requested the woman to get an abortion. Mamkoottathil was suspended from the primary membership of Congress on 25 August.
Earlier, after Malayalam actress Renee Ann George accused a youth leader of misbehavior, she had resigned from the post of State President of Youth Congress. After this, DYFI, the youth wing of BJP and CPI(M), protested. After this, many women and a transgender person also made allegations against him.
